Terms. (Plumbing).ABS.Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. A plastic commonly used inplumbing for waste pipes. Not that good for outside work. Holland Park Plumbers use ABS.Airlock.A bubble of air that gets lodged in eater pipes and causes a block. Usually in gravity fed hot water systems.Bottle Trap.A trap is actually a U bend that uses a trapped volume of waterto halt the smells coming from waste pipes.Box Spanner.A metal cylinder shaped to encase a certain sized nut. Handy when access is limited. A Holland Park Plumber carries box spanners.Check Valve.A valve that will only allow water to pass in one direction only.Combination Valve. Many areas of plumbing require a number of valves to control the water. The most common scenario uses a filter to clean the water of debris, a check valve to make sure the water goes in one direction and a pressure reducing valve to keep the pressure under control. So rather than have three separate devices, all the functions are combined into this one combination valve.Compression Fittings.A type of fitting that forms a watertight seal by compressing a ring of brass or copper between a pipe and a fitting.Condensate Pipework.Modern boilers cool the flue gases down so much that they condense back to water, this pipe takes the condensate away and out to the houses waste pipes.Double Check Valve.A check valve is used to ensure that the water can only run one way through a pipe. If dirty water tries to come back up the pipe in the opposite direction, then a double check valve is used, so that if the first fails, the second will do the job.End Feed Fittings. The cheapest form of plumbing fitting, which applies solder to the end of a fitting and lets it run inside to make a watertight seal.“
