There are many different terms and names in the plumbing world so it is not surprising that most people get very confused with them. An example of this is the Gully Trap. The gully is built to hold water, trapping it. This is designed to keep the foul air from escaping from a drain system. It receives waste water from, kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms on the ground floor and rainwater. From the gully the waste moves along to an inspection chamber before it goes away to the sewer. But should a homeowner need to tell someone like a Holland Park Plumber that there is a problem, they might not know the name of the item, like the gully or inspection chamber.

Gully Trap.
This type of trap is made to be fitted externally to a house and will carry the waste water from sinks, bathrooms and hand basins They are fitted to the drainof the house and stop the foul smells from rising up and returning into the home. Normally known as the grid it is full of water and a U-bend. If you still don’t know what it is then look at the bottom end of rainwater pipe which blocks with leaves.

Inspection Chamber.
As the waste water leaves the house from all of the outlets inside it makes its way to something called a hopper which is shaped like a funnel, usually fitted to the outside wall on the side or rear of the building. From here it goes down the pipe to the gully. At this point it meets the waste from the kitchen and to the inspection chamber and finally away into the sewer system. The inspection chamber is a point at which all the drains meet and is a place where, as the name implies an inspection can take place or it can sometimes be where a blockage backs up and is often accessed to clear such drainage blocks.
